The treasures and travails of the ocean have shaped Nige’s life journey: his playground growing up on the east coast of Sri Lanka; his source of livelihood and sustenance as a fourth generation fisherman; his seafaring route captaining a boat fleeing war for safety; the distance that now separates him from his wife and child. Nige taught himself, by sense, to recreate the dishes of his childhood during almost a decade in immigration detention in Australia. He is now proud to teach you to create some of the treasures that have marked his incredible journey, and that remind him so much of home.
